September Paper Moon Sessions are ready - $100 for a single 5×7.. I’m asking that you limit the people attending to three at most, know that one - two is ideal for ensuring everyone is in focus. If you want to bring a well behaved pet, please alert me ahead of time.
Paper Moon photo booths became popular at traveling fairs in the early 1900s, back when photography was still a rare luxury. I’ve always been drawn to these portraits, especially the charming and quirky moon designs, and wanted to capture that same magical feeling here in the studio. I worked hard handcrafting this moon and the set.
While the moon itself will stay mostly consistent from session to session, each event might will feature different skies, stars, clouds, and backdrop details. The backgrounds will be black, though the tintype process can sometimes create soft haze or fog-like effects due to chemistry variations. Those imperfections are part of what makes each plate entirely unique and impossible to replicate.
Appointments are available for 5×7 tintypes, and every portrait includes a high-resolution digital scan delivered to your inbox. If scheduling permits, you’ll also have the option to purchase an additional paper moon plate during your session.
Occasionally we may create extra plates because of blinking, movement, or chemical inconsistencies. These “seconds” can be purchased for half price. If they aren’t claimed, they’ll be repurposed in the studio.
Each booking is a private fifty minute session. Please arrive right on time to 2701 Spring Grove Ave — not early or late — to allow enough space between appointments for everyone involved. A day before Alex will email you again with the address and her phone number as you will need to text upon arrival so she can let you in the building.
You’re welcome to bring multiple outfit choices. Textures, patterns, and denim tend to photograph beautifully. Try to avoid solid dark shades or colors like black, red, orange, yellow, and green, as they can blend too much into the set.
